Nestled in the Northern Alps, Oku-Hida Onsenkyo spreads out over the mountains at an altitude of 800m to 1,300m, and shows completely different faces with each season. There is no end to the sights to see, including landscapes created by nature, impressive waterfalls, and villages where mountain village life still thrives. The Shinhotaka Ropeway takes you straight up to an altitude of 2,156m, where you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Northern Alps. With easy access to Kamikochi and Mount Norikura, you can also enjoy sightseeing tours based in Oku-Hida.

Hirayu Waterfall

Hirayu Otaki Falls, with a drop of 64 meters and a width of 6 meters, is one of the three most famous waterfalls in Hida and has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. It shows off beautiful expressions in every season, and every February the Hirayu Otaki Ice Festival is held, where the frozen waterfall is lit up.

Hirayu Folk Museum

Hirayu Folk Museum and Hirayu no Yu are hidden gems worth visiting when visiting Hirayu Onsen. The former Takakuwa House, a gassho-style house relocated from Toga Village, Toyama Prefecture, over 40 years ago, and the former Toyosaka House, a Takayama City Cultural Property relocated from the Kurabashira district, are completely free to visit and take breaks. Okuhida Visitor Center

The Visitor Center is the starting point for your trip, providing information on the weather, sightseeing, transportation, and other aspects of the natural parks and surrounding areas, including Mount Norikura, the Yari-Hotaka mountain range, the Goshikigahara Forest at the foot of the mountains, Hirayu Falls, and the Oku-Hida Onsen area. It also introduces the region's distinctive topography, geology, flora, and fauna, and offers activities such as nature observation and forest bathing.

Take Japan's first double-decker gondola to a world above the clouds at an altitude of 2,156 meters. The 3,200-meter-long Shinhotaka Ropeway offers a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the Northern Alps, including Mount Nishihotaka, Mount Yari, and Mount Kasagatake. At the summit station, you can enjoy a walking trail through the primeval forest, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery from May to October.

Oku-Hida Sabo Juku is a learning facility where you can learn everything about landslides and sabo in Oku-Hida. The facility clearly explains the role and mechanisms of sabo, and exhibits tools and valuable materials actually used in sabo projects. Surrounded by mountains, the Oku-Hida region has long faced landslides and protected people's lives.
