Nestled in the Northern Alps, Oku-Hida Onsenkyo spreads out over the mountains at an altitude of 800m to 1,300m, and shows completely different faces with each season. There is no end to the sights to see, including landscapes created by nature, impressive waterfalls, and villages where mountain village life still thrives. The Shinhotaka Ropeway takes you straight up to an altitude of 2,156m, where you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Northern Alps. With easy access to Kamikochi and Mount Norikura, you can also enjoy sightseeing tours based in Oku-Hida.

Hirayu Waterfall

Hirayu Otaki Falls, with a drop of 64 meters and a width of 6 meters, is one of the three most famous waterfalls in Hida and has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. It shows off beautiful expressions in every season, and every February the Hirayu Otaki Ice Festival is held, where the frozen waterfall is lit up.

Hirayu Folk Museum

Hirayu Folk Museum and Hirayu no Yu are hidden gems worth visiting when visiting Hirayu Onsen. The former Takakuwa House, a gassho-style house relocated from Toga Village, Toyama Prefecture, over 40 years ago, and the former Toyosaka House, a Takayama City Cultural Property relocated from the Kurabashira district, are completely free to visit and take breaks. Okuhida Visitor Center

The Visitor Center is the starting point for your trip, providing information on the weather, sightseeing, transportation, and other aspects of the natural parks and surrounding areas, including Mount Norikura, the Yari-Hotaka mountain range, the Goshikigahara Forest at the foot of the mountains, Hirayu Falls, and the Oku-Hida Onsen area. It also introduces the region's distinctive topography, geology, flora, and fauna, and offers activities such as nature observation and forest bathing.

Fukuchi Fossil Museum

The Fukuchi Fossil Museum is a place where you can see many fossils of marine creatures that lived approximately 400 million years ago, during the Early Devonian period of the Paleozoic era, long before the age of the dinosaurs, discovered in Fukuchi. The fossils were preserved and collected by Satoru Yamakoshi of Fukuchi since the 1960s, and were later used as a museum in the folktale village of Fukuchi Onsen.

The museum houses and exhibits 500 historical documents related to Enku and Banryu, who have deep ties to the local area, as well as the Ohara Rebellion, earthenware and stoneware related to people's lives, and folklore materials. It also screens the film "Tsubakimishi Hana." This museum preserves history and traditional culture for future generations. Adjacent to it are a multi-purpose field and indoor gymnasium that can be used for baseball, track and field, and more.

Norikura Skyline

Mount Norikura, located at the southern end of the Northern Alps, has its highest peak, Kengamine, at 3,026 meters above sea level. The Norikura Skyline, a 14.4-km mountain tourist road that connects Hirayu Pass to Tatamidaira, takes you to spectacular views above the clouds. At an elevation of 2,702 meters, Tatamidaira is home to approximately 4 hectares of flower fields, where colorful alpine plants bloom in white, yellow, and pink in summer.

Norikura Echo Line

Prefectural Route 84, commonly known as the "Norikura Echo Line," runs from Nagano Prefecture to Mount Norikura. At an elevation of 2,716 meters, the prefectural border point is known as the highest point accessible by public transportation in Japan, making it the highest prefectural road in Japan. Private vehicles are restricted from the Sanbontaki Gate onward, but in summer, there are barriers to entry.
