奥飛騨温泉郷は、湧出量が日本で3番目に多く、日本有数の露天風呂数を誇ります。 この豊かな湯を生み出しているのが、活火山・焼岳です。そのふもとには、平湯温泉・福地温泉・新平湯温泉・栃尾温泉・新穂高温泉の5つの温泉地が点在し、それぞれ異なる泉質と個性を持っています。単純泉、炭酸水素塩泉、硫黄泉、塩化物泉など、湯めぐりを通して多彩な温泉を楽しむことができます。

When Takeda Shingen invaded Hida, an old monkey was found healing his wounds in a pool of hot water... This is said to be the origin of the discovery of Hirayu Onsen, a famous hot spring in Japan. During the Edo period, feudal lords from the Hokuriku region would use this place as a lodging to relax and unwind after their long journeys on their alternate attendance voyages. Since then, hot springs have continued to gush forth everywhere to this day. Hirayu Onsen is located at the foot of Mount Norikura, and even today it is a refreshing hot spring resort with a rustic hot spring atmosphere.

神岡町から高原川に沿って奥飛騨温泉郷へ向かうと、最初にあるのが栃尾温泉です。 むかし、トチの木がたくさんあったことから、この名が付いたと言われています。庶民的で気どらない宿が多く、山菜や川魚を使ったおふくろの味が大好評。 また、栃尾温泉周辺では渓流釣りも盛ん。豊かな自然を欲しいままに、素朴なムードを満喫できます。
